Garage Sale Treasure Hunter Vintage Collectibles, Hard to Find Items and What's Popular!
  • People Are Strange

People Are StrangePeople are strange.  Jim Morrison and The Doors  sang that people are strange when you're a stranger,  and apparently they are pretty strange when you are a friend too sometimes.  Forgive me while I express my frustration for a minute.  Most of my posts on this site have been related to finding garage sale items that sell well on eBay.  Hopefully a few people have benefited from what I've written.  I've also mentioned that there are some other ways to make money online that don't involve having to find, list, sell and ship products.  Hopefully, a few folks have also made some money from what I suggested.  Now, let me explain my frustration and why I say that people are strange.

I know several people who are currently sweating out whether or not they will have a job after the next few months.  The governor of the state where I live has proposed some major budget cuts that could result in a flood of furloughs.  These people know me and they have heard me talk about both selling on eBay and building quality websites to make money.  They have been as bold as to ask how much money people can make doing these things and I've  explained how they could probably replace their current incomes with some work and patience in a relatively short amount of time.  These friends of mine have seen that I'm able to make money online.  I have offered to help them get started for no money.  I just wanted to help after listening to them fret about what they will do if their jobs end.  Has one of them taken me up on my offer?  Nope.  Do you know what their contingency plan is if their job goes away?  Looking for a job at Denny's.  I didn't make that up.  I know that at least two of them were discussing putting in applications.  These are people who have, or are working on their Masters degrees for Pete's sake!  Now, there is certainly nothing wrong with waiting tables, but with just a little bit of effort now, they could avoid having to give up 1/3 of their day working in a restaurant in a few months.

What is it exactly that makes it so hard for people to believe that there is money to be made on the Internet?  I mean, seriously... The Internet is a tremendously popular place frequented by millions and millions of people every day.  Do you think there might be some money getting spent?  You better believe there is.  Take a look at Amazon and eBay.  How much money do you suppose trades hands on those sites every day?  Do these people realize that both of those sites pay commissions to site owners who drive buyers for them?  Do they realize that when someone spends money online, someone else is making money online?  Instead of doing something to help themselves out, they scurry off to Facebook and make posts on their "wall" about how it stinks that they might lose their jobs.  That will really help.

At this point, I should offer a word of warning and a voice of reason.  Making money on the Internet IS something that interests a lot of people.  As such, the concept has drawn a lot of people who are just selling garbage get rich quick plans.  Don't ever spend your money on something that promises to get you rich instantly.  Instead, look for ways to make money by building quality.  That is the key.  Do you want to spend money on garbage?  Neither does anyone else.  Provide quality.

Want an example?  Let's say that you want to start a website about something, but you don't know where to begin.  You could start a very simple site by just writing honest reviews of products you have in your own home.  Tack on an affiliate link to Amazon, and every time your drive a buyer to Amazon (or some other affiliate site), you make a commission.  There are many other ways to make money online, but this is probably one of the easier ways to break in to the field.  Build a quality site, get the word out so that people will find you,  and give the people what they are looking for online.  Have a product to sell or an interesting passion that others might like to read about?  You just need to learn how to get traffic and monetize the whole thing.  It really isn't all that hard once you know what you are doing.

So anyway, I will once again recommend that you (and my friends) go and check out The Keyword Academy for FREE.   They do an excellent job of explaining the whole concept of how to make money online with an easy to follow plan for beginners.   It is absolutely free for the first month and they won't give you a hard time if you want to quit.  Really.  They don't do any bait and switch campaigns.  It just boggles my mind that I point my friends to this FREE source of information and they ignore it.  YET, people read long sales pages from strangers who make outrageous claims and then drop $67 on a product that is junk.  Yep.  People are strange.
